When the outer surface of your waterproof gear starts to absorb water instead of repelling it, then it is time to clean it with a Nikwax Cleaner.
Your gear could be soaking up water just because it is dirty. Dirt attracts water so it will mask Durable Water Repellency (DWR).
Try cleaning it with a suitable Nikwax Cleaner and if it is fairly new or recently re-waterproofed the DWR will be revitalised just from cleaning.
But once the item has been thoroughly used you will need to add DWR using Nikwax TX Direct after cleaning.
Nikwax Tech Wash cleans water-repellent fabrics effectively and revitalise Durable Water Repellency (DWR) by removing water-attractive dirt and detergent residues.
Nikwax TX Direct is waterbased waterproofing which restores and improves water repellency of breathable fabrics without wicking / absorbent liners.
Nikwax Tech Wash and TX Direct can be applied in the washing machine.
If your item is machine washable this is an exceptionally easy way to ensure that it has been thoroughly cleaned.
All you need to do is place your item into the washing machine and then run a normal cycle using the appropriate Nikwax Cleaner. Alternatively, Nikwax wash-in Cleaners can be applied by hand washing.

How to Use:

Nikwax Tech Wash:
- For machine washing: Place your item in the washing machine. Add Nikwax Tech Wash to the detergent compartment and select a normal wash cycle.
- For hand washing: Add Nikwax Tech Wash to warm water and gently hand wash the item.
- Rinse the item thoroughly after washing to remove all residues.
Nikwax TX Direct:
- For machine washing: After cleaning with Tech Wash, run a separate wash cycle with Nikwax TX Direct added to the detergent compartment.
- For hand washing: Add Nikwax TX Direct to clean, warm water and soak the item. Ensure even distribution and let the item air dry.

Where to Use:

Use on waterproof, breathable fabrics like jackets, trousers, and outdoor gear. Ensure that the item is machine washable or safe for hand washing.

When to Apply:

Apply when the water-repellent properties of your gear are diminished, and the fabric starts absorbing water instead of repelling it.
Use after your item has been exposed to dirt or contaminants that affect the Durable Water Repellency (DWR).
Reapply Nikwax TX Direct after several washes or once the item has been heavily used and the DWR needs to be restored.

Cautions:

Always follow the care label on your garment or gear.
Do not use regular detergents or fabric softeners before using Nikwax products, as they can interfere with water repellency.
Ensure items are clean before applying Nikwax TX Direct.
